★Social Value Awards : Best ESG Demonstration of the Year

Winner:Thai Containers Group

Contribution:Renewable Energy System Installation in Paper Packaging Factory

Country:Thailand

The global climate crisis demands urgent action. The paper packaging industry, a high-energy consumer, must lead in reducing emissions and shifting to sustainable energy. Thai Containers Group has achieved notable reductions in both CO₂ emissions and costs through the implementation of two key renewable energy systems:

  • Solar Rooftop System: Solar panels have been installed on the factory's roof with a capacity of 1264 kWp. The system can generate approximately 27% of the factory's total electricity consumption, reducing reliance on external electricity and lowering carbon dioxide emissions by 1,064.5 tons per year.
  • Biomass Boiler System: Biomass boiler has been installed with a capacity of 5 tons per hour to replace the use of oil for boiler in steam production. This facility reduces the consumption of fuel oil and further reduces carbon dioxide emissions by additionally 2,786 tons per year.

The implementation of the Solar Rooftop System has led to a significant reduction in electricity expenses, approximately 27%, with substantial decrease in carbon dioxide emissions, while the Biomass Boiler System has further reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 2,786 tons per year in addition. This project demonstrates the factory's commitment to being part of the solutions to resolve global climate crisis and serves as a good practice for other paper packaging factories in Thailand and other countries around the world.
